Utilities

Overview

Canada’s utilities sector is facing significant and rapid change in the face of climate change and policy shifts.  Companies in this sector include power generators and distributors, many of whom are facing challenges relating to sustainability, renewal and resiliency.  Power generation consists largely of hydro, nuclear, gas and renewable energy. along with transmission of the electrical energy generated and natural gas distribution.  Increasing options for customers, blurring industry lines, complex mega projects and the replacement of legacy energy providers are all contributing to a challenging operating environment.

CHS has significant experience in dispute and non-dispute engagements in the utilities sector.  Our engagements have included investigation and litigation related to energy efficiency programs, valuations related to restructuring of utility organizations, royalty review related to nuclear isotope generation and assessment of economic damages related to alleged breach of contract cases in the renewable power sectors.
